The W.A. Franke College of Business Pathways Highlights
The W.A. Franke College of Business Pathways bring University resources, Alumni discussions, and company partner presentations to our students. A few highlights include students attending the 45th annual NAU Economic Outlook Conference. FCB/HRM alumnus and Founder/CEO of Clicks and Clients, Mr. Paul Rakovich, led a discussion on all things Entrepreneurship. TGen Talks COVID with the FCB as Pathways. Dr. David Engelthaler, an NAU Ph.D. alumnus and Co-Director of the Pathogen and Microbiome Division at TGen North; leading the research efforts of the COVID virus and gave the FCB an update and discussed the new vaccine.
Craig Culver, Co-Founder of Culver’s and Culver Franchising System, Inc. gave a talk to share his views on entrepreneurship, being an ethical leader, sustainability, and more. This was a great opportunity for students to interact with a successful businessman and entrepreneur. It was a full house and custard was be provided!
The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management had many Pathways and would like to highlight the following: Pathway for Isbell Ethics Executive Speaker: Dorothy Stingley, a McDonald’s owner/operator of 16 Phoenix area restaurants with over 30 years of working with leaders, managers, and teams shared an enthusiastic discussion on business ethics with 40+ HRM students. HRM Pathway for Isbell Ethics Executive Speaker:
Dorothy Stingley, a McDonald’s owner/operator of 16 Phoenix area restaurants with over 30 years of working with leaders, managers and teams shared an enthusiastic discussion on business ethics with 40+ HRM students. Mrs. Stingley is also a leader in the Women Operators Network (W.O.N.) as their President and a philanthropist with 30 + years of support to the Hunger Project, Ronald McDonald House Charities and the McDonald’s National Scholarship Program.
HRM Pathways — Hospitality Bridging Health (H2H) Week:
#1- Mario Alcantar (’01) with Kaiser Healthcare in CA as Director of Ancillary Services and Jin Lee (’19) with North Country Healthcare in Flagstaff, AZ as their Talent Integration Assistant shared their background in hospitality and transition to the Health industry. They also discussed similarities and differences between the two industries and possible career advancement within healthcare as an HRM grad.
#2 — An Executive Speaker panel comprised of 4 panelists shared their excitement for bringing Hospitality to the Senior Living Health industry. They were some of the most successful hospitality leaders who have or are transitioning into the Wellness/Senior Living space as a career opportunity. With COVID-19 pandemic, hospitality jobs have frozen and many are still furloughed or have been eliminated. This was NOT the case for Healthcare hospitality leaders. Our esteemed panel presenters, Michael Tompkins, Joseph McCarron, Aras Erekul, and Carl Pratt discussed their careers and new opportunities in health and wellness for hospitality career professionals. They were able to draw a picture of a new model of hospitality combining wellness, community, real estate development, senior living, hotel and mixed use retail and shared on the cutting edge of the future of our industry.
